Clothes, ok clean clothes, lol
For a woman a black cocktail dress is always a safe bet. Go to your favorite store or find an honest friend to go with you and get a dress that flatters your figure. If you have no experience shopping in a department store or a boutique make sure you take someone else with you and dont believe all the sales person says. The $75 dress on clearance may look better on you than the $200 you just tried on but she is trying to make a commission. If you know someone whose style of dress you admire get them to go with you and take you to their favorite places
Good Luck and have fun at the fancy shmancy dinner party :-)

The little black dress is the equivalent of a man's tux. You can't go wrong. Do your hair and makeup, and only a little jewelry. And only wear heels you feel comfortable in walking in. Preferably the black dress hits about knee length or lower. And for the weather, shawls and wraps are really popular right now.

My pet peeve, doing the black cocktail dress bc everyone does it. I love a cream colored dress in the winter-time. Or do dark burgandy or even dark navy blue.Velvet is always pretty. If you want to be totally "safe" and blend it, then wear the black cocktail dress.I used to have a couple of red dresses and the guys just loved it and I'd always get compliments.

Depending on who you're going with and what you think would suit you. I think the classic simple little black dress says alot about a woman, add few startling accessories and their you go. Nothing floor length, a pearl choker/longnecklace would work as well as a peral bracelet. If you have no little black dress do a bright coloured dress blues and fuschia(not red) or a bold and bright print. few accessories with this as well because the dress will speak for it self.

A nice dress (not too fancy-there is a place to draw the line!) or a nice top and skirt. For shoes, something with heels would be great. Good luck! Oh, and be sure to have a lot of color!

Go classy and simple and don't overdo it to try and dress up. Little black dress and stappy heels with a nice coat. Also a great hairdo dresses anything up.
