Beats me.
To Emerald, one pound of rice takes several times as much water to grow as beef, so does that mean we should stop eating rice? No, of course not, and that we should stop eating meat because it uses up more water is a pointless argument for exactly the same reason.
There is already a huge excess in the amount of food produced; we have much more than enough feed the world. There really is no point making more at the moment. Anyway, most of the outside land used to rear animals would be unsuitable for crops, due to poor quality soil, bad climate or bad terrain (crops can only be grown on flat land really), stopping rearing meat wouldn't make that much more land for crops.
While the rainforest's are cut down for grazing animals, the meat isn't sold to McDonald's, or and other company in America or Europe, as it is poor quality. Therefore there is not even guilt by association, as it has nothing to do with the meat we eat.
In the UK using hormones, steroids and antibiotics are banned (because of the EU), as is selling products which has those substances in. That hormone argument is an argument against those substances, not meat itself, just try to find meat which doesn't have them in.
While meat eaters have less to choose from, meat is invariably more nutritious than plants; you have to eat many different types of plants to get the same types and amounts of nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are found in a single piece of meat.

I was a veg. for about six months. I started because I was on a farm of a relative and finally got to be right next to some cows. This made be feel upset about knowing that they would become food, so I stopped. About six months later, my room mate had sliced ham in the fridge, like always. I really wanted to taste meat again, so I tried some and slowly started to eat meat again.
Lots of people do it for health reasons as well, meat contains lots of things we should not eat but without it it's hard to get iron, other then really working at it.
I now feel like a meal without meat or at least cheese is not a real meal! At least I tried.

Well there are the humane reasons of course, and the ecological reasons. One pound of beef takes 5,214lbs of water to make, and one pound of lettuce takes just 23 gallons. In a world where water is getting more scarce, it is an issue. Grains that are grown to feed cattle - if fed to humans instead could feed 10 times the amount of people. In a world getting overpopulated, this is an issue. Rain forests in central America are clearcut for grazing animals that are sold to McDonalds - those forests are important for recycling the air, as well as the hydrologic cycle.
Humans don't need meat to survive, the factory farms are actually hurting human health. Do you know how many hormones and antibiotics are pumped into meat to keep it alive in the packed factory farm conditions? Google "red meat" and "breast cancer" and find the new links studies are finding.
There are many body builders (including a few who became mr universe) that rely on purely plant material for all of their protein. You don't need any vitamins or supplements if you eat right. Meat eaters have a very select amount of animals to choose from, while we vegetarians & vegans have over 15,000 edible plants to choose from.
So I ask you, how can you eat meat?

What is wrong with you people!!! I don't mean to sound rude but, why can't you just except that people feel differently about this subject? I am a vegan and very happy with my life. I am healthy too. I am not a Christan so I don't believe "god" put animals here to be slowly tortured then brutally killed, but I don't go around putting down meat eaters. People like you make people like me mean.

Some vegans think that eating meat is cruel; others do it to be healthy. I eat meat because it's delicious and a great source of protein. You have teeth and a digestive system designed for the job, so why not eat meat? There's nothing wrong with it.

Animals eat meat! It's natural.
They don't say "I don't believe in killing other animals"
IF we are NOT supposed to EAT meat, it would get us SICK!!!!
Instead it provides B-12 Vitamins , Protien and Iron.
For good health.

Did you ever try other foods? Could you eat your meat without salt, bread, ketchup, onions, or any other flavor if you "love" it so much? What do you think of when you eat meat?

i'm not eating meat because a lot of meat comes from animals that were raised in bad environments. *tear*
but i don't think that killing animals for meat is wrong. just torturing them while they're still alive.
also i don't really like meat.

If you love it, by all means go on eating it. What you do with your body and your conscience is your business; what I do with mine is mine. Personally I believe that raising an animal under inhumane conditions, pumping it full of steroids, antibiotics and hormones, then slaughtering it is a cruel and completely unnecesary way to nourish human beings. But that's just me.
