I have been diabetic for over 40 years and have competed in many sport activities. I used to run cross-country, track and marathons. So yes, I have worked out for extended lengths of time. My answer to how, I used to eat a sweet snack or piece of hard candy before or best yet an hour or so before the event. Running the marathons was not easy for the diabetic condition. As such, I cannot store energy like most other racers. Instead of slowing down for water or Gatorade, I would arrange certain spots to have orange juice. At those points I would splash down a cupful of that to help energize me. My suggestion to you would be to find the point just before danger starts and a manner that works best for you to avoid it like I did.

Know matter what type of illness you have the diet and exercise alway's helps especilly when you have something like diabetes. You can't just except to take the medicane and have it work. Everthing comes into play when you have a disease including excercise and diet. They all work together as you have to balance everything out. I've had epilpesy, back problems and now diabetes. If I didn't watch what I eat and exercise all the time no medicane could do all the work. Because I walk every day and take care of health I look younger than my real age. I ride a exercise bike and that helps as well. But watching what you eat is the other key. I don't eat fried foods. I've cut all salt out of my diet. Do eat junk food and eat healthy.

Working out is the best thing to do for your diabetes, I try to work out @ least 3 times per week on my treadmill...I started by going for 15 minutes @ first then built my self up .. I find walking on the road or on a treadmill is the best way to work out .. That's how i lost my 30 pounds and i never ate after 6 pm ...

I've been a type two diabetic for about three years now. I walk one mile 3-4 times a week, my daily blood sugar(AM), before 0700, before a meal is 111, and after a meal is usually high, about 150. At times I feel down, lousy..I've lost ten lbs. in three months, my neuropathy is actually less. I need to lose about twenty more lbs. Walk for your life, don't give in, exercise daily some way....some way. My good friend is dying now. He waited to long. God bless ya.....

sometimes when I feel up to it, walking is the best, next is the excersise bike...It's hard when you sugar is high to do anything, so excercise for 10-15 minutes before and after.>>ridying a regular bike is an option running up and down the steps, but check with doctor before you do any excersises.what is suggested is that you walk for 45 minutes or ride a excersise machine for 30 mins everyday.>>as a regular routine. Also watch your diet and salt and keep a keen eye on your glucomuter, you always need to check your sugar before any excersing maybe if your unsure ask your doctor, always play it safe you can pass out doing to much or to little also the dosages of your insulin needs to be in balance when you do your daily excesise everyday is different. amy

You can, but you need to follow the advice of your family doctor as to how much you can work out, or the doctor that diagnosed you as a diabetic. The doctor would know your limitations as to what you can and cannot do.

Typically I do 50 minutes on the eliptacle which burns 500 cal. and I go 5 miles. I find this is a nice balance, but each workout should be specific to the person.

you can if you want. it really dosen't matter, just stop and take a break and drink a juice or eat a fast carb to keep your glucose level where its supposed to be.
