I have chronic lymphatic leukemia and while i am receiving chemo- therapy "which lowers my immune system"I am given valtrex to help in preventing viral infections like thrush and shingles

I am employed in a dental office and the dentist sometimes prescribes Valtrex for cold sores on the patient's lips. It is not just for genitals.

The Valtrex web site says it can be used to treat cold sores and shingles, both of which are caused by strains of the herpes virus (shingles occurs in people who have previously had chicken pox, which is caused by herpes zoster.)
