They are not necessarily the same.
Eternity implies a never ending span of time, but it says nothing about having a beginning. It's simply a non-terminating duration.
Infinity, on the other hand, when used in the most commonly accepted form implies an infinite span in either direction of time - it had no beginning and it will have no end.
Perhaps I have those the wrong way around. It's all a matter of context and intention.

Infinity has to do with distance and Eternity has to do with time - If Eternity Ends, so does Infinity, if Infinity Ends, Eternity Does Not

I think it is an analogy to eternal things, and points out the eternal character of God. Only an eternal God could create an infinity.

Infinite is anything that doesn't have an end (from Latin in-finitus). So, since eternity doesn't have an end, it is also infinite.
