There are so many four star hotels in Bangkok, you'll be amazed. The hotels are located on different roads so depending on where you want to stay, you will get a range of options.

I recommend you stay on Sukhumvit road, the main city area, with lots of shopping, entertainments, restaurants and bars. Excellent and very reasonable 4 star hotels on this road are Bel Aire Princess, Grand Mercure Park Avenue, Grand Sukhumvit by Sofitel, Novotel Lotus, President Solitaire, Rembrandt Bangkok and many more. If not on Sukhumvit road, you can stay at Silom or Sathorn area or around Wireless or Siam Road as the BTS skytrain system is easily accessible from these areas so it's easier to get to places without being stuck in traffic.

Check out www.excelloz.com for all the hotels in Bangkok and get a good description of each one. You can also read some hotel reviews to get a better idea of where you should stay.

Bangkok has some of the top rated hotels in the world! A simple search would come up with a list. Top rated at the Oriental Hotel (one of the oldest, famous for the writers that used to stay and write there), Shangri-La is also highly rated..both would be 5 stars. All the major chains have premium hotels here...Hilton, Sheraton, Peninsula, Marriot,Le Meridien, Novotel. Erawan has gone through a major reno and is now a boutique hotel and mall.

there are all major hotel chains in Bangkok, Starwoods, Hyatte, Intercont. Novotel, Acor, Marriotts, Conrad, Four Seasons, Hilton etc. and almost on major business areas. Most of the Major 4 and 5 stars are located along Chao Phya River (Orietal, Shanglila, Sheratons, Hyatt, Peninsula, Marriott etc), Sukhumvit Road (Sheraton Grand, Marriott, Kempinspki,, etc.), Sukhothai hotel on Satorn Road is also very good. Lot lot more on other major streets.

Trust me, you do not need any other four-star hotels once you have stayed at The Oriental hotel. It is not very elegantly dressed but it is super spacious and quite warming for visiotrs who want to get away form it all. The major shopping centre-Mah-Bo-Krong or MBK is only abouta 10 minutes walk form your hotel. It is really convieniently located. DO check out this website for more information.

P.S: I stay in The Oriental for all my vacations in Bangkok, Thailand.
