hmm...is this phrase true or not?& has anyone actually experienced this in real life?

cos just yesterday,i told my 3 month crush that i like him & his reply was "i would have said yes,but i'm not looking for a relationship right now & i like someone else too"....& the worst part was that he was so sweet abt it,he tried to make me feel good,he even stayed with me when i told him i wanted to talk(that made him miss one of his favourite events too-felt sory abt that afterwards,i should have just let him go) & we ended up talking for more than an hour.it was fun!

i keep wishing that he would have acted like a jerk, then it would have been so much easier to get over him.lol, but this is reality & that wasn't the way it happened.

so,i just want to know if this saying is true cos i really want to get over him(mainly cos i'll be seeing him a lot-at school, during the hols etc.)

thanks for all the answers! :^)

You have made things clear with him how you feel about him and he did as well. You can't make someone want you in ways you want them but who knows he sounds like a very level headed guy so maybe down the road he'll see you in a different way then just as a friend. Just enjoy life have fun and be thankful he is as he is cause so many people are so cold and have no feelings of others feelings. And yes I believe that saying to be pretty much true. Good luck to you. ;o)

If you mean to ask if you should wait for him, then the answer is "no." I think he was really trying hard not to hurt you, but if he said exactly what you write then it appears that he did not want to date you. If he is not looking for a relationship, he would not be interested in that "someone else" he talked about. I don't know why he would reject you, but I'm sure he has his reasons (maybe he's going mad over that other chick, or maybe he thinks you two are completely incompatible). Anyway, it's no big deal. Good luck with the next one!

Oh yeah, about that saying . . . like all such sayings, there are exceptions. I think it is generally true when applied to situations like yours, because people who do not like you very seldom come back. Don't worry about it though. Good luck!

VERY interesting question.
i'm 26 and study in munich, my ex-girlfriend works in hongkong since june06. 2 months ago she decided to quit our relation, after 5 years. nevertheless i don't think i made a mistake in letting her go. restriction within a relationship is the beginning of the end...

in my opinion the saying is true.

Sometimes you have to give the person a "reason" for him/her to come back to you,use your imagination.
Other times I have given up,and when I do,nothing ever happens when no effort is applied.
So it is basically up to you,as to where you want to fit yourself into this person's life and how it will affect your own.
Be careful, sometimes we get what we wish for.

Awwww, sweet guy...I guess, i believe in that saying cuz you can never force anyone to stay with you...Who knows, there might be a chance for you two if he realized he likes you more than that girl...I hope it will be a happy ending..

~Yes, it's true. I think you are right, he felt sorry for you, that's why he stayed so long comforting you. It was pity, how can that be fun?
I suggest you move on.~
Take care.
