In spiritual terms this is called "the bodily conception of life".
That means you are thinking you are this material body...but are you?
There are great reasons to believe that we are not these material bodies, but that we are in fact spiritual beings within the body (the soul).
Once you realize this, then bodily appearance becomes less important and less of an obsession. When you think "This is not really me" then it doesn't really matter.
Your spiritual body is amazingly beautiful and you can realize that when you become God realized. God's beauty dwarfs all others, naturally.
Too much material focus creates these types of psychological or psychiatric problems.
I hope this helps!

It's called Body Dysmorphic syndrome, as others have remarked.
The problem is that you've made a space called 'ugly' and put yourself in it. I've never seen you but I bet you're not ugly. Very few people are, but that doesn't help you. You are still living in the house called "Ugly Girl Lives Here".
There are support groups that can help you. Ask at your local library if they know of such a group in your area. Search Google Groups for "body dysmorphic" to find internet discussion areas.
You're not alone, you're not weird, and there are people out there that can help.
Good luck

I don't want to guess. Maybe o\poor self esteem but lots of people are going to say that. My guess is shyness. I checked firsr and you don't seem to have a photo here. Try posting one and wait for comments.
You could email me one but I could only give you the odservations of a 52 year old man. Odds are you are beautiful
It's not body dismorphic disorder or popenism. Your not mutalating yourself or playing troll hiding under a bridge. You just need Sir Galahad to come riding up and sweep you off your feet

There is a term for this named after the Greek heroine Popenastra. She would try to 'improve' her features by altering them with a knife as she thought she was ugly. She was in fact the most beautiful woman in the town but would not listen to others. The term you are looking for is thus Popenism

Hi Michelle, I seem to be suffering from the same situation as you. This is very likely why I haven't put a pic of myself in my profile. I've been told I'm good looking, but I find that so very hard to believe.

It's called Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and you're not alone. You need counseling, professional help, because this doesn't go away on its own.

Body Dismorphia.
Have you thought about talking to a psychologist/psychiatrist who specializes in that area? Sometimes they can really help.
