Yes, incense is a universally acknowledged space purifyer, used in religious rituals to focus the mind and calm the senses, it enables the devout to have a more meaningful spiritual experience.

The only reason they use incense at mass is because they know that out of all the old people there, a few of them are going to let one go.

Yes, it is very scriptural. In the book of Exodus Chapter 30, it is most holy. And holy incense is to be used for meeting with God.
I think incense is much used today and it may not be pleasing to God. I do not use it.

I used to, because it was a symbol of the scripture verse that says a Believer's prayers are like a fragrant aroma & pleasing to God.
Then as I began to get allergic migraines, I began to avoid the services where I knew incense was going to be used. God understood.
