No solution, it's the cycle of life. Your parents did it to theirs but at a level you didn't notice. Every generation changes a fraction. After a couple generations you can see a major change. Some are not too healthy, some are. In my generation we eat allot better and take care of our bodies from teen to death. My parents however, ate pork at every meal and are wondering why their arteries are clogged. This generation has discovered smoking is nuts, my parents generstion thought it was cool. This generation throws away everything from usable items to unborn children. My parents would not have even considered the horror! Nothing we can do about change. Just hang on and hope genocide doesn't become popular!

If you are already old, there are not too many options. However, make sure your will does not favor your kids. Use up your money while you can. Leave a note in your will about your disappointment. As far as people in the past worhipping their parents: I'm not so sure that is true; maybe they feared their parents;maybe they were forced by society to act a certain way toward them;maybe there were not a lot of retirement homes to put parents into. The young don't have a clue about what it is like to be old and won't have any perspective on it until they are old themselves and wondering why their own kids don't respect them.

Society today has evolved so much since the days of ole. There are fewer close nit familes then there has been. I'm 32 and I myself is guilty of being selfish. When I turned 26 that is when I realized family is all you have after the dust settles. With the econemy on a finacial roller coaster and working more hours and education getting more tuff on children the time to spend with ones that are not in your home is difficult. To me a solution is to have mandatory gatherings bi-weekly. My family and I have set up a day that is set aside for our grandparents. It has help eyerone and especially them in our visiting them. It maybe every two weeks, but at least we are seeing each other.

This is very sad to me.Our parents, as you said, worked hard and gave up things for themselves so that the children could have what they wanted & needed. My wife worked in a nursing home as a private sitter for about 6 months. It tore her up,she got very depressed, although she felt like she was helping someone. Even in the good nursing homes you will find patients lined up in their wheelchairs just sitting and patients wondering around. I would never put my parents in a place like that . It is our jobs, as children to help our elderly parents live comfortably and respectfully for their remaining years.

The solution would be that parents acknowledge when they get pregnant and have a baby that they have a responsibility to raising that child in the proper ways. Teaching them right from wrong. Teaching them respect by showing them respect as well as showing them how to respect others. Correcting them when they have done something wrong with some kind of discipline so they know not to do it again. Praise them when they do well so they can see what they can accomplish in life and be proud of. Show them their strengths and help them with their weaknesses.

I complete agree. It is the kids reponsbility to take care of their parents. It seems that their hearts have hardened and they don't have compassion anymore. Parents should be worshipped.
In this changing world, we have all moved away from a spirtual existence, I believe is one of the root causes of many problems in society today. We need to find a way back to this. This will bring compassion back into peoples hearts.

In your next life, try to come back as an African American.I know you will be treated as a second class citizen, but you probably won't end up in a nursing home,or try being Latino, they usually keep their parents home as well.

I love my mother and I take care of her, I'd never disrespect her. I think anyone who treats their parent like crap has serious issues far beyond anything that most decent people can comprehend. If I were elderly and had crappy kids, I'd make sure they inherited $0.00 when I died.
