Can anyone honestly rectify being gay and adhering to any of the world religions (more ephasis on Islam and Christianity and Judaism) . In other words, taking the sacred writings and justifying God's love or acceptance of this sexual orientation? I'm curious as a gay man and having lived in the Middle East and grew up Catholic. I'm not seeing any way of rectifying the two other than through systematic rationalization of each condemnation thereby melding it to conform to my hopes of a God who accepts me. Any ideas?

To ALL of you who answered, whether for or against who I am, I appreciate it. Secondly, I want to clarify that I am in no way asking for permission to be gay nor am I saying I'm confused about it or feeling guilty about it. I know God made me this way having had the first feelings for men when I was in forth grade. It wasn't my choice and I am a witness to that, tho I can understand why straight christians cannot understand this nor rectify it with their religion in many cases. But to me this is the only proof that these religious books have at least one flaw. I am not asking for sympathy or direction or to be "healed" cuz we all know that all those "ex-gay" movements do nothing but damage with little or no results other than further phychological problems. Anyways, if you would like to answer this, please do, but don't bother trying to convince me that my sexuality is sin nor that I am doomed. By the way, Islam says you're wrong if you're Xtian, God's pissed off at you too. :)

I know most if not all of the mainstream religions condemn homosexuality... i am straight myself, but from what i can see most of them base their views on the OT in Leviticus,, where it says that a man cannot lie with another man because it is an abomination and ppl caught would be put to death... my personal opinion is there are two covenents ... the OT and the NT ... God deals with man much differently in the New than the Old .. i dont think religion can have it both ways ..if you go by the OT then you have to take ALL of it .. which would mean ppl with deformities cannot go to the alter, thats adulterers have to be stoned , that you cannot eat certain foods... you cant pick and choose and if you go with the OT like the Jews... fine believe and act according--i find nothing in the NT that actually condems it-- and i dont see anything that Jesus said about it... im sure if it was such a moral challenge to the world he would have at least mentioned it... ppl will say God makes no mistakes... but for some reason if you are gay... He did ... like i said my friend ppl cannot have it both ways ---you accept the fact the your Father made you and He loves you --and He didnt make a mistake -- dont let the predjudices of man ruin your perception of your Creator ...

A dear friend of mine is both gay and a devout Catholic. Early in his life he was a monk.

He told me once that he had decided to accept that his church was just wrong on what he describes as "the pelvic issues" and to continue to believe the core message of his faith, which had nothing to do with sexual orientation anyway.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Read through Romans Chapter 1 you will find that you cannot be gay in christianty. It is considered a sin, If God wanted people to be gay he would have created man for man! but no he created man for woman thats why its "adam and eve" pray to God and ask him for forgiveness so that u can turn away from immorality and unpureness.

God loves the sinner. This is why He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. If you are hoping to become a Christian and still go on being gay you will never find God's grace. Your heart would not be right. You could be religious or you can have a relationship with God. If you are going to be religious then it does not matter which religion you chose. All religion is death. Faith in Jesus Christ is life. Religion will not save you. You will just be living a lie. It is better not to practice religion. Don't be like the Pharisees of the bible. Their religion was a one way ticket to hell. If you want to remain gay you do not honestly want to know God. I say this as gently as I can. I am telling you the truth though. If you want to sin you will sin. If you want to know Jesus you will give all of your sin to Him. I am telling you the truth because your soul is at stake. We will all be before Jesus. Some will say that there is no God. They are liars. They are blind. What they say will not take away from this fact. Being gay is not alright with God. He calls being gay an abomination.

Lev 18:22
(22) Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Read the following verses and you should have your question answered.

Rom 1:26-32
(26) For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
(27) And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
(28) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
(29) Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
(30) Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
(31) Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
(32) Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Being gay also goes against the teachings of the Jews. The first verse I quoted is from Leviticus.

You can not justify Gods love by wanting to be wicked. If you want to be wicked you want nothing to do with God's love. God loves and forgives those that turn from sin. If you remain in sin and embrace sin you will die because of your sin. I hope you think about what I am saying. It's the truth. May God open your eyes.

STOP! BEATING YOURSELF UP. Sex outside of marriage is a sin, be it gay ,or straight. GOD loves the sinner and hates the sin. The only way you can be righteous is through Jesus Christ. Mother Teresa couldn't be righteous with out Jesus Christ. Sin in our lives effects our relationship with God not our salvation. When we accept Jesus Christ ALL sin is forgiven. After salvation we need to grow closer to God allowing him to help us control sin in our life. The only way you can be righteous in the New Testament times is through a relation ship with JESUS CHRIST.

I believe you are correct, that only through a convoluted tortuous twisting of the scriptures, can one meld an acceptance of homosexuality with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

God bless!!

There are a LOT of very good, moral, religious people going to Hell, and in Hell right now.

They felt being; good, and moral, and religious was enough. They never consider their sins as an issue, never considered their accountability to God for their sins, they never received Jesus Christ as their Savior. "Saved from what ?" They would say. After all they were; good, and moral, and religious people, "God understands !".

But they are wrong. Yes, God understands. He understands that their sins have separated them from His grace ! Their arrogant unbelief of His eternal WORD, their rejection of His Son, their self assured I'll do it my way foolishness has landed them right in Hell. Good, moral, and religious, and in Hell !

Talk to the priest, or any religious scholar from the temple, church or mosque to clarify your doubts.

Acccording to my knowledge certainly those two dont go together.
Perhaps when you do find the answer let me know.
I would suggest u ask the most knowledgable that has been chosen to teach.

I think you should be gay and not give a crap what others think. If God hated gay people he wouldn't have created them. Why would he create something just to hate it? Think about it.. This is exactly why I am not religious at all, it contradicts itself way too much.

Why would you want to join a club that did not want you as a member? I grew up Catholic as well. It astounds me that people want to reform the church. What would you gain by reforming a hierarchical and authoritarian religion?
