anything. body fluids, swabs of wounds, skin, mouth, any body part really. the culture plates are impregnanted with antibiotics, and are spread with the sample. this is then left to culture. if the sample doesn't grow on an area of the plate, then that antibiotic is effective in killing that bacteria.
