check a junkyard for a computer, make sure its out of the same year as your truck, and if needed you can take it to a dodge dealership and have them flash in the right code.

I have asked the same question, and I have came to the conclusion that if we get one, we are at the mercy of the crooks, and we got to pay the price. Buying one from the junk yard is not a good idea. If one gets the wrong code computer, it could damage other components. You can purchase a computer from a junk yard and it will be the same year, same vehicle, and the same model, but not the same computer. I have a repair shop, and I have been there and done that. Another thing you got to watch for on used stuff is; if it has ever been in a flood, the electronics are not worth having. They can work one minute, and stop the next. I have reached the conclusion that the only way to get a good reliable computer for your vehicle is to puchase a new or remanufactured one from some place like Auto Zone. They have came down in price, and aren't quite as expensive as they used to be.
What I do is; I'll purchase a remanufactured one from a parts store, keep a ground strap on myself, and never handle the computer until its ready to go in the vehicle because of static electricity. The battery cables are very important when installing the computer too. Have them both off the battery. Purchase a can of Electronic Cleaner, and use it on all computer related connections, and sensor connections before installing the new computer. Clean the battery terminals, cable ends, and the ground straps to the body from the engine to insure proper grounding of the computer. Once this is all done, put on a ground strap to your wrist, vehicle body, and engine. Then install the computer, the positive battery cable, and finally the negative cable. I have not had one ounce of trouble with vehicles I have done this way, and they have all operated as expected when I hit the ignition key.
I'm not saying you couldn't get a good used computer, but I am saying it is not worth the effort to install a used one. If you check the prices, you will see that the used one is almost as expensive as the new one, and if one doesn't want a pig in a poke, then get the right one the first time.
Glad I could help you. Good Luck!!!

buying that from a salvage yard is the best way to go.any good yard will only sell you the right one or if they don't have it they will find it for you for FREE.also the vast majority of yards give at least a 30 day warranty on parts.the yard where I work gives a 120 day unconditional warranty on every part we sell.but we don't have the ecu you need...try car-part.com
