Yes,you can train dogs a lot easier through play.If you start some basic training with him and then reward him with play you will form a strong bond with your dog.He wont get dominant as long as you stay in control of him and he knows you're the boss!

Those kinds of games can make a dog more dominant. Schutzhund trainers do play tug of war with the puppies as they develop the instincts When I've played tug of war with my pups, I would say "Get the toy" and then teach them, "Give" and make them release it, which was a playtraining way to teach them to go for the toy and also to turn it loose when I said so.. Get the book "The Art of Raising a Puppy" from the library, it was written by the Monks of New Skete, who raised German Shepherds, and it tells excellently about the developmental stages of a GSD.

Pups out of German bloodlines are often more dominant and pushy and energetic than pups out of American show bloodlines.

Letting the pup chase you is ok if you do something that shows you as dominant at the end of the chase, such as putting the pup in a sit, or petting him on top of the head and looking him in the eye until he turns away. When two dogs decide who is dominant, they stare each other in the eye until one turns away and submits. So when you look your puppy in the eye and he turns away, he is submitting to you.

Games that you can play that will be useful later in training are games like retrieve games. Call your puppy to you and put him in a sit position as you hold a treat up for him to grab after he sits, such games shape behavior that later will help immensely in obedience training. Playing hide and seek, where you hide and a friend takes the pup on the leash to come find you, is a game that is a precursor to teaching Search and Rescue.
All German Shepherd dogs need obedience training. The breed is very smart and will push you as much as you let them.

This guy is obviously not a accountable breeder, run any incorrect way. permit him sell it to a pair different sucker, and discover an greater breeder, please do not help his "breeding practices". A domestic dog that youthful would desire to stay with that is mom to benefit significant training and life skills. A dogs that misses out on which could finally end up to have social and behavioral subject concerns whilst it rather is older. Edit: accept as true with below remark. An 8 week previous domestic dog can basically carry it for 2-3 hours on the main, a 5 week previous domestic dog can in all probability carry it for not greater then an hour or 2, even in the process the night, so which you will awaken to a grimy crate each morning, not friendly. A "breeder" is all and sundry who "breeds" an animal in there possession with the objective of acquiring infants. Edit: nicely if so you have domestic dog poop and pee throughout your place mutually as you sleep, basically be certain you do not step in it interior the morning. A crate is between the main suitable homestead preparation procedures, not used as a cage to maintain the dogs in all day. A domestic dog, noticeably one that youthful, should not be exterior in wintry climate climate for greater then a jiffy at a time, so do not think of you may basically plop him exterior and pass away him there, besides the fact that if he has a dogs homestead.

Yes you can play some games

Early learning games .;
teach her to come to her name

play gentle "run with you "games
( not too far she is only a baby ....).

gentle wrestling play

tug of war games can be fun,
but you must always win !
( she is probably teething so do not drag hard .)

(you are the leader of her pack, and she needs to understand that )

always remember a puppy of that age ,will tire very easily and needs, lots of undisturbed sleep .

When she is about 12- 20 weeks old
if you can, enroll her into a puppy training class,
that will be very good for her ;

socialization with other puppies ,

training your dog ,in basic obedience .

I promise you ,you will both have a lot of fun .

Good luck and many years of happiness,
with your new baby

What is her name ?

Absolutely! Playing games with your dog is the very best way to build a strong bond as well as to establish benevolent leadership and teach your dog about self-control. Games like tug of war are so heavily used in sports like Schutzhund and agility specifically because they teach a dog how to defer to their owner with self-control even while in the middle of a high energy and wildly fun game. Schutzhund dogs, in particular, need to learn how to stop dead in their tracks at their owner's word no matter how revved up or keen they are on whatever they're doing. It's a misconception to think that "dominance" has anything to do with it.

The most important thing to keep in mind with any game is that you want to make sure that you're in control at all times. Now, this doesn't mean that you need to literally control everything that your dog does. This means that it is always in your power to start the game when you want to and more importantly, to stop the game when you want to. If you're going to play chase games, make sure to teach your dog not to run under your feet, for another example. If you're going to wrestle with your dog, part of the game should be for them to learn how to have good bite inhibition, and you need to stop the game immediately if your dog gets too exuberant with her teeth or paws or anything else. She needs to, and can, learn how to play gently, and not slam her head into your head or other potentially painful things. And always think about how you will feel about particular behaviors when she's fully grown. It's really cute when puppies jump up on you, but it's not at all cute when they're 80 pounds or more. However, you can teach her at an early age to jump on only when you cue her and never any other time, and THAT is a behavior you can live with when she's big.

Playing games with your dog really lets them learn the limits of their body. A dog that never has a chance to put his mouth on your skin really never learns how to do so gently. Later on, if that dog snaps at a person, even accidentally, they may break the skin unintentionally because they just don't know how much pressure to use! Playing games also teaches them about proper use of personal space, so your dog learns lessons like how not to bowl you over rudely if you're sitting on the floor. It is through play that dogs learn these lessons from each other, so may as well make use of it yourself!
