It could be because they are not very well off at all...and they pay rent for the rest of their lives and that a trailer costs about as much as a car..and the people that live in trailers are poorer and do more drugs etc. Personally I think that people who live in trailers are alright, and not your typical white trash losers that you think would live in trailers.

Not everyone who lives in a trailer deserves the title trailer trash.
'Trailer trash' is reserved for those dirty individuals, who like their jeans white washed with holes, don't care for dental hygiene, collect broken down cars, think the mullet is still in style. Pretty much trailer trash are the people you don't want to make eye contact with or stand too close to.
If you go to a trailer park and are trying to figure out which trailers are inhabited by trailer trash, just look for the ones who obviously don't care about their environment.
However trailer trash are nice people, just a little weird. Alot of them will stop and help you out if you are having car troubles, or just need help. Sometimes they can even be chatty people that want to tell you all about their life...

There is a difference. There are people that live in trailers and then there is trailer trash. One does not actually have to live in a trailer to be trailor trash. Trailer trash usually involves unkept, dirty old trailers with people that act low class.

Not everyone that lives a trailer is trash. I live in a 1999 double wide manufactured home in a trailer park. (Which I own.) I drive a 2006 Chevy Silverado which I am paying for myself. I dont get any help from the state and never will.

It has to do with the stereotypes that do sometimes apply to people living in trailers (poor, bad teeth, republican, ten cars in the yard, NRA) and also with American social structure. It makes middle class people feel better about themselves to make fun of the less fortunate. For some reason, they feel comfortable making fun of 'trailer trash,' especially if the trailer people are white, but they feel like angels if they give a poor kid on a street corner a doll, especially if the poor kid is black.

Well, in some areas of the country, if you live in a nice mobile home, your next door neighbors give you a bad name. I lived in an really nice 'trailor' it was 3 bedroom, 2 bath, nice living area, nice kitchen, but I was TRAILER TRASH. It's just how it is honey, Now I live in a small apt that has one bedroom, but I'm not called APT TRASH. I don't even have room for my daughter to visit now!!! I wouldn't care what people think, just be happy. Ron

It is a stereotype contributed to by television. It's easy to convey the point that a character is "trashy" if they live in a trailer. I happen to live in a mobile home and it's a nice place. It's economical, I don't waste unnecessary utilities and it's a home. I've seen trashy people living in big houses.

usually because of their behavior - the way they treat their kids, the way they dress, their 1982 hair styles... just looks trashy...and the food they eat... it's all considered "low class"
NOTE: IM NOT SAYING ANY OF THIS IS RIGHT!! NOR ARE THEY MY OPINIONS.
I am just trying to anwer your question. people are judgemental...trailer dwellers are people too, and im sure most are very nice... but people in other parts of society may find them unappealing and be harshly judgemental against them... probably out of fear that they might end up in a trailer themselves.
