Last week, I adopted a 4-year old fixed male cat. We don't want him to sit on our couch and go to upstairs. I tried to use cat repellent, but no use. He still goes upstairs. Please help.

Cats are very independent and like to do just what they want to do. The only way to keep it from going somewhere or doing something you dont want it to do is with a squirt bottle full of water and squirt them when for instance it jumps on your couch. You have to be real consistant and stay home and spend days training otherwise it wont work, and about going upstairs, good luck.... the only sure way is lock them in a cage which is just not right. A kitten is cute and you get it home and they are who they are, you just have to accept them for the wonderful animals they are and not expect them to be what you want them to be.. You probably picked the wrong type of pet....

It is cruel in the first place to lock up a cat inside and take his freedom away.

On top of that...now you want to control where he goes inside.

Why on earth did you adopt a cat?
Why didn't you get yourself a stuffed toy cat.
You could have put him anywhere you wanted to and just look at him.

Cats are not toys for your convenience.
They are live animals with a mind of their own.

Cats are smart animals. You just need to be patient and teach him. You cannot expect him to learn this right away.

Close the door whenever possible and don't let him into the room for any reason. He'll soon get the idea
