Its is a big curiosity factor with cats... They see this big tree and think its a cool thing to climb...I have some ficus trees in my home and they try the same thing on them .. I use Thyme oil..Its just an herb and can be purchased at any health food store ( preferably an organic store) .. Thyme oil has a scent that cats cannot stand but humans cannot smell.. Take the oil and mix with alcohol( just the regular kind for wounds ) in a spray bottle and spray tree..
If you cannot find the oil, buy the loose herb from any supermarket or health food store... Take the herb and boil it to release the scent into the water ..I boil for 5 minutes if I cannot readily find the oil...Strain and pour into a spray bottle ( once cooled of course) Spray tree,..Will not hurt your tree and usually , one treatment is enough .. Cats have a keen scense of smell and they can smell something months later that we cannot...
Make sure you spray the tree skirt too..

Hope this helps :)

Hi Brooke,

I have two Bobtailed Cats who are very rambuncious and not chill at all. I tried getting regular ornaments, sprayed them when they came near the tree etc. But eventually what I did was go to big lots and buy all plastic ornaments, that way if they knock them off they wont break anything. Luckily I have not had any tree climbing going on, so if that is the problem, the only suggestion I can think of is to either get one of the high frequency things you can plug in that bother them, but we cannot hear and plug it in next to the tree and set if for only the vacinity of the tree, or spray that stuff on your tree that repells pets, the same stuff they use to keep pets off of furniture. I hope that helps but either way, Happy Holidays and good luck :O)

Keep a cat out of a christmas tree? I roar with laughter at your innocence. You my dear are going to be picking up ornaments, and maybe the whole tree all season long. ( do not put tinsil on it because a cat will eat it and it may get twisted in their gut) otherwise grin and put up with it, YOU OWN A CAT.... DA

The best way to keep a feline from doing something that you don't want it to do is to deprive it of attention when its doing it. When my cat started scratching my nicest piece of furniture, (It's not anything special, but I'm a college boy so it is to me!) I put her in her little pet carrier for five to ten minutes and I made sure that she saw all of the activity she was missing out on for "being bad." After doing this a few times, she realized that its not appropriate to scratch up my chair instead of using her scratching post. The absolute worst thing to do is to spank or spray your cat. Cats don't understand physical punishment and it will cause them to fear you and run away when you try to pet them. Cats hold grudges to, so its important to remember this. I hope this is helpful for you and your baby!
