Yesterday, I went to the dentist and I was going to have a tooth removed, so I was given about 2 or 3 shots of Novacaine (but it didn't numb me), so we couldn't removed the tooth yesterday. I have an infection in the tooth and it killed any numbing the Novacaine would've done. Now, the left side of my neck (same side as the tooth is) has been hurting me for the past hour i'd say. Why???

ITS NOT AN ALLERGIC REACTION
Is it a lower posterior tooth???
If yes then..most probably the infection from you tooth have spread toward the fascia in your neck..this could be a serious thing( and life threatening) esp u feel difficulty in breathing and swallowing...did ur dentist give you any antibiotics??i recommend u to get help if u r suffering difficulty in swallowing @ breathing asap..

I am not a medical expert but...I don't think it is an allergic reaction. That kind of thing wouldn't be so localized. Possibly the infection has gotten into a gland in your neck. If the dentist hasn't given you antibiotics for the infection you probably should be getting some. Maybe a trip to the emergency room would be a good idea...antibiotics, pain meds and a better diagnosis than you got here. It'll be worth the trip to know that it isn't worse than it is and well worth it if is something serious. GO.

It might just be an allergic reaction. When I had one of my teeth removed, they had to numb my jaw where the tooth was located about 4 times! I eventually got it pulled! They had to numb it so much because the stuff was not strong enough! My whole mouth stayed numb for the rest of that day! It felt weird!

not at all , it's not an aller gic reaction , , when everthere is any infection or an abscess , the anesthesia shots doesn't work , action of anesthesia is only in alkaline medium , abscess is pureli an acid medium , shots doesn't work in acid medium ,
so , no extraction is carried out when ever there is infection in the tooth , as shots doesn't work
u would have made ur neck stiff at the time of giving shots , so it's hurting u , don't worry , follow antibiotics and analgesics , u will b fine,

it's probably from the infection. you may need to see an oral surgeon to get the tooth out. he may even put you in the hospital and treat your infection with high doses of antibiotics before pulling the tooth. call an oral surgeon's office for information and an appointment if needed.
