Your Mom is a wise woman. Atheists that are confident with their stance would not need to be rude to any religious person, for an atheist, their Heart and Mind ARE their God. It is only when they are harboring a whole load of Anger and Unhappiness in their own being , that they want to make sure others feel that way too...
All people Atheists or Religious, want to be happy... when we are Seperated from inner happiness ( god or otherwise ) thats when "lashing out" at others happens.
Just the same way when we are unhappy or angry... they ones that take the worst of our tantrums and laser tongues would be the very people we love and the very people who love us... even though we don't mean to do it.
So... as a spiritual person you and I too shouldnt point fingers at why others are rude... but should ask ourselves are WE also just as rude to question their right to be atheists.

I can't believe people writing that they are persecuted because they are Christians. Why not read the history of Christianity - you will see how peaceful and loving the good ol' Christians were.
As far as saying all atheists are rude - what a load of rubbish - you are sweetness and light I suppose! Show your mother how polite you are here - I'm sure she'll be delighted with the daughter she brought up.
Religion is a personal thing - if you decide to push your beliefs down someone's throat, then don't say they are rude if they tell you to shut up. You shouldn't be trying to convert them to try and get bonus points in heaven to start with.
I've never read such rubbish.

"I would be smack some of the rude females in the head"
"it is hard when you feel like persacuting them 100 times worse."
"And the ones that have been rude to my face in the past, they have never done it again."
How very Christ-like of you.
Maybe atheists are rude to you because in that other question you made a bunch of conclusions about evolution and all sorts of other things when it was clear that you had no idea what you were talking about.
But you still come off as more rude in that post alone than any atheist I've EVER known.

Leanne, when I read your question I immediately wondered how these Atheist people had been rude to you. So I looked at some of your Q & A and I had mixed feelings.
While you are correct that there are some rude folks out there, that say things that are blasphemous (like they guy who asked if he could use DOG backwards as an actual name for his dog). Questions like that are really designed to yank the chains of people like you as the authors of these loaded questions know that you will take the bait and jump right in. This gives them exactly what they are looking for.
You however seem to be a well intending person but are so far off the mark that your writings can easily and correctly be construed as offensive (although not blasphemous). People are asking innocent questions about what they should do on the weekend and your answer to them is not only to pray, but to pray to Jesus. You don't know what religion that person is. That person was not a self described Atheist, yet you assaulted him by telling him not only to pray (you know thats not the answer he was looking for), but also WHO TO PRAY TO!
It smacks so much of the radical Islamist world that believes that there is only one way to pray or you will suffer (except that while Christians save non believers their suffering in the afterlife, the Islamists will just kill you now and get it over with (that was meant as a joke.)
I know you have faith and believe very strongly in what you write, but you do it so HEAVY HANDED and without tolerance for others, that I beleive you are not achieving the impact you wish. You mention staying away from Jehova's witness in one of your answers, but the way you answer some folks non religion questions with religious answers, you in effect have knocked on their door at 8am with pamphlets.
Although most of my friends are Catholic and Jewish, I have a few friends that consider themselves Born Again Christian. While they have told me in the past that they pray for my soul and truly believe I will be going to hell for not embracing Jesus, it does not get in the way of our friendships.
They don't shove it down my throat and we simply agree to disagree on the matter and we learn from each other and enjoy each others company.
I hope my words are well received. They are certainly not intended to insult you, but rather so that you may consider that there is more to life than telling folks how wrong they are. Good luck,

People in general should not be rude to each other, it only begs hostility in return. Unfortunately this does not always inspire people, regardless of religious affiliation or lack thereof, to refrain from doing so. People have a tendancy to respond to what they percieve as hostility towards them with more hostility, as an innate defense mechanism. It's the same thing you are doing with this question, by:
1. Choosing to categorize those without religious affiliation in the "catch all" term "atheist".
2. Generalizing that most of them are rude.
Believe what you know. Know what you believe.
but understand this...
PEOPLE are rude sometimes.
Doing "bad" things is only "bad" because it causes "bad" things to happen. If everyone enjoyed the end result of "bad" actions they would hardly be percieved as negative.
In summary...You get what you give.

So the only reason you're not out there killing everyone who doesn't agree with you is because god told you not to? Wow, look everyone, a reason to keep religion around after all.
Tell you what. Stop trying to force your religion on us by legislating it, or at least stop making assine comments, and maybe you won't meet anymore rude atheists. I sat between two evangelical christians on the plane today for three hours, and even though they found out I was an atheist before we took off, we got along fine and had a nice, civil conversation.

Your questions on this site have been very, very rude. They deserved rude answers. And it was aimed at atheists, so that's who answered.
And yes, I agree with you. You need to change. Why don't you try being respectful to other people regardless of their religion, and see if they're rude to you then. Likely not. People react in kind to the way they're treated by others. If you don't like it, you have to be the one to make change.

1. Make sure that you don't argue about religion or atheism, and you won't receive any bad feedbacks.
2. Make sure if you indulged in an argument, to listen carefully to the other side, perhaps there is something in it. If the other doesn't listen, then you end the argument.
3. Make sure not to reinforce your beliefs on others, and respect all other beliefs.
This way I guarantee you'll be in peace, and Jesus will be happy for you :)

Blasphemy against your own brain is cause for rudeness. Especially when you declare your ignorant ideas with an air of very misplaced arrogance.
I am a female. Easy for you to say you would smack me sitting at your keyboard. And in that same day I tell thee verily the ground shall rise up and smite thee.
Hmm. Turn the other cheek indeed.
