I do not think Meditation is threatening to christianity...In fact, the saints and church fathers educate us on how to meditate...so I guess it depends on what the nature of meditation you speak of.

If one sits on their own, speaking with God in Deap thought, calling his name loudly within their hearts, calling His name and calling upon Him to cleanse them, purify them, grace them with His presance and imagine His glory and power through His creation...well, that is meditation in its purest essence.

But if you speak of eastern-meditation where one would go into a deap 'trans' and focus on their own strength and self-centered purpose...well, that may do some harm to their attitudes, and may even lead to such a conviction of unrealistic views on life, but certainly will not threaten the church a single bit.

I hope this helps...God bless.

Meditation is such a broad term... some people consider meditation nothing more than sitting quietly in prayer or simply sitting in silence, thinking over things.

But if you are talking about Eastern religion-type meditations, where you have a certain "mantra" or you consciously center your thoughts on your breathing or on an inner light or on your belly button, anything like that, then you are stepping into the murky waters of Buddhism or Hinduism and techniques that actually take you away from God, not closer. Demons and evil spirits are indeed real and often accompany such meditative techniques.

Speaking in tongues (although your question didn't ask about it but some people included it in their answers) is a valid scriptural experience for today and a gift from God. That is not to say that some people don't abuse it or misunderstand it but that doesn't negate its genuineness.... Certainly the devil can counterfeit it but that only means that there must be the genuine, too.

God bless!!

I've never heard of it being threatening before. I'm a Christian and I believe meditation is good for you. It's good for the mind, the spirit and the body.

The word of God encourages meditation on the word of God which will make us prosper (Psalm 1) and properous and successful (Joshua 1:8). Christians are to meditate on God's word and not find it threatening as God desires us to do so..

Because it's considered religious competition. The number "13" originally was considered a luck number by Egyptian Culture. we started with 13 colonies, etc, but hundreds of years ago the people began to investigate other occult beliefs and it was the Catholic Church that said "No" to the number 13. Religion is a business in disguise. The more followers the bigger the collection basket.

People stereotype, some christians might find meditation evil because it has been used in Magic/k and witchcraft in the tv and real world. So if you medidtate, some might think you are a witch or somthing like that. And if you are wiccan, some might immedietly assume you worship the devil.Seems rather sad such ignorance exist.

Because a lot of christians think it is tied up with some Eastern relgion and they dont want any competition for converts.

But christians fear not, it is merely a technique for quitening the mind.
Hey try it! Might make you a better christian.

I find "speaking in tongues" stupid and threatening. Meditation is benign.

Sorry, Satan and his imps and minions control you whilst you meditate, read Harry Potter, or talk to yourself on an Ouija Board. ( Oh how those demons love to communicate through board games.)
