i wanted to know if someone who has a mental health background who hasn't had any kind of episode since they were about 18 or anything, is in recovery, (has clinical depression) is allowed to persue college and/or a career in the criminal justice field...like would they be allowed into the police academy or anything in the field of criminal justice?

well i have been hospitalized for a suicide attempt and have deppression and i work for mental health now (funny uh, yet i think its making me more mental) and have degrees in Admin of Justice and Corrections. I also have worked probation, and CPS so perhaps its just where you live and what you are actually trying to do. As long as you are open to discuss the reasons why and how you are doing today .

If you are referring to a Law Enforcement career, I'd say you probably wouldn't be selected for any positions. You would have to pass the Psychological exam (MMPI) and then pass the oral board (sometimes called the Oral Diarrhea board) If you are referring to getting into College in a CJ program of course you can. It's a great program. there is a lot you can do with it besides going into Law Enforcment too. Good Luck.

It shouldnt be a problem............... depression is or should be viewed like a treatable medical problem . as long as it is under control you should go for it.If it isnt undercontrol i would find something else to do. Law enforcement personel do have a very stessful job and you need to be able to handle it. If you would have said you had a mental health illness like schizophrenia i would have said find something else.

"Mental HEALTH...?" - Probably NOT...!!!
UNhealthy minds certainly tend to dominate the DA's office - and Prosecution Law in general, for that matter...
