We should all try harder to please our Lord. Right? So what is holding us back from the simple "Thank you's" and "I am happy for you's"?

Some beleive that we do nice things because it makes us feel good, not because we are told to. I like to think I hold doors for people, and say 'thank you' not because I am scared but because its the right thing to do.

I'm all for random acts of kindness, to those you know and to strangers, but when you bring your imaginary friend and his agenda into it, it doesn't seem so generous anymore.

Reluctance and fear of not being acknowledged.

Or maybe, if we were not brought up to be kind because our parents aren't kind.
