lol.. I don't know... maybe their hunger makes them too delusional to believe nothing was really there.
I do it all the time.

I hate when I do that. It used to drive my mom crazy. She'd say, "There isn't anything different than the last time you looked and you're burning up electricity!" Then I get a big long lecture about letting out cold air and how long it took to cool the thing down again and how hard that was on the motor and blah blah blah. But now I'm in my "late" middle age and I still do it. But now it's my own fridge and I don't care how much electricity I'm burning up...I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF SOMETHING NEW TO EAT HAS MATERIALIZED SINCE THE LAST TIME I LOOKED!!!!!! ;>O

In my country which is Singapore, we love the cool air coming out from the fridge. Other then that, its to get beverages.. And no, we open our refrigerator not to hope that something to eat will materialize, but instead to hope that our fathers left some alcohol for us =)

Sounds like my uncle. He keeps returning to the refer not because he hopes something new will be there, he just does not take enough from the very start.

Good question. Probably for the same reason people stand infront of the fridge with the door wide open for 15 minutes just staring at it.

They want to see if the little man who turns the light on is asleep.
In my personal quest to trick the little man, I discovered a peanut butter and bacon sandwich!
If I ever meet the little man, I will buy him a drink...that sandwich was AWESOME!
