maybe.... I believe that this applies, also in this particular context, only to the moment when the teaching takes place and, of course, for the slave it must be seen as "importance", but in any case, it is a rethoric question. In fact, Leonardo Da Vinci said: "sad is the disciple who does not overcome his Master".

You did not finish it off properly.
Matthew 10:24,25
" A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his lord. It is enough for the disciple to become as his teacher, and the slave as his lord."
It is teaching humility and equality not thinking yourself above others or becoming greater.
If you wish to use scripture it is best to use the full context.

The next verse to that is:
It is enough for the disciple to be like the teacher, and the slave like the master
In that context, I don't think it means they aren't equal. Just that one is not better than the other.

I have never seen anything implying equality in the bible--somebody is always better than everybody else and somebody is always inferior through no fault of their own

You're mis-interpreting it. Jesus is telling His followers that it won't be easy going for them. It's the same idea as when Jesus said.. Jhn 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you.

IF IT SOUNDS NEGATIVE YOU ARE MISINTERPRETING IT. ( Damn I hit the caps lock key.)
You're only allowed to say positive things about God or bad weather stuff will occur.

God is greater than us - yes.
There is a God and I'm not him - and that is ok.
