I'm trying to get rid of belly fat. f I suck in my gut all day long, is that effective in toning my tummy, and strengthening my muscles? It seems so much easier than doing a whole bunch of situps. Does it work?

Situps and stomach exercises will build muscle in your abs, without burning much fat from your stomach, therefore just making it look like your stomach is bigger, and leave you without muscle definition. The best way to lose fat anywhere on your body is by cardiovascular workouts such as jogging, sprints, or even playing raquetball, basketball, anything in which you are constantly moving. Cardiovascular workouts are the hardest ones to get into and improve upon, but they'll make a huge difference in your body fat.

As far as sucking in your gut, that will build a little muscle in your abs, but is not near as effective as situps or crunches.

Unfornatley losing stomach fat and toning your abs so that they are more visialbe are two different tasks. I was having the same issue.
I don't enjoy situps either. I still do situps but with dumbells in order to decrease repititions. I cut my carbs down drastically, I eat more fruit and vegetables instead of desserts, and I run 3 - 5 miles 3 times a week. I have lost several inches. You have to be consistent. Also You make want to try the Abs Exercise Ball to increase and define the size of your abs.

Cardio will get rid of fat, not situps.

Situps build muscle in the abs. This is why many Okinawan Karate experts seem to have pot bellies - they have huge abs from practice of Sanchin no Kata.

Do some jogging, running, or biking, get your heart rate up. Also eat well. That will help you lose some of the fat over time. Just keep with a healthy lifestyle.

I gradually started to run and take a 15 minute sit up class and was almost rid of my belly fat after 10 weeks! It takes some hard work but it is worth it! The running was the biggest help because that tones everything up! I'm almost up to 10 miles a day

You can't do situps until your tummy is bulging.

Try aerobics exercise or involve yourself into sport where you can greatly exercise all your body parts.

Eat less and do more activity.

When you see that your body is slimmer then begin the sit ups and weight training.

All you need is full discipline to get what you want.

It works, but to an extend. You wont get a full and complete flat stomach that way. Crunches are more effective that sit up for tummy toning also.

not really. belly fat is the result of storing water in fat muscles in the stomach area. the number of cells is set, and short of liposuction, never goes away. all you can do is prevent the storage in the fat cells by exercising the muscles and a sensible diet to keep the fat cells from holding water.

I think that the best stomach exercise is a crunch on a roman chair. It's easy to perform (not rough on your body), and it gets results.

obvious answer!!! Sitdowns!!
Before you ask,I have no idea how you do them.I would imagine all that sitting up and sitting down would wear out your pants. But then if you "f1 suck in your gut all day" I suppose you don't care if your **** is hanging out of your pants. Its all pants anyway!!

crunches are good....also other exercises that require tight abs....correctly executed push ups require tight abs...so do most back exercises....you can't have good abs without a strong back
