I have a Blue and Gold Macaw and latly she has been screaming constantly! We spray a small water gun at her which only helps for the time you are spraying her and we hang a sheet over the cage which keeps her quieter, but she still screams, Any ideas of what else we can do to quiet her down? This is horrible when your on the phone or have company over. Thanks!

More toys and attention is the key. Spraying water gun may in time produce screaming because any attention even negative will make the bird scream so you come to shoot it with the watergun. The gun only works when the bid has enough attention and he must learn there is a time and place for everything.

Waiting for you the get on the phone or have company sounds like the bird enjoys your response to screams.

Welcome to the World of Macaw.

With few exceptions, Macaws (and Cockatoos) scream. They're birds, it's what they do.

However, you may be training your bird to scream more by giving her attention when she is screaming. As the others have suggested, make sure she has lots of toys and activities to entertain her. Lavish attention on her when she is not screaming. Reward her with a treat when she is being quiet and tell her she is such a good girl.

I spent the day yesterday with a Macaw who is one of the rare Macaws that never screams but a new bird had been added to the flock that morning and boy was the Macaw screaming! Check her surroundings to see if anything has been changed such as furniture moved or a new item added to the room. Parrots don't deal well with change so if something is different in her vicinity, that may be the source of her unhappiness.

Good luck!

She mad at you isn't she ....
Put the radio on for her, get her more toys, give her something to do. Did you change something within her environment? Someone move in or move out of the house? Did you move her cage? Change her food?
My parrot gets real ticked off at me at times! Over what I think is the littlest things too! I scolded her for trying to eat a vinyl record album cover and she was mad at me for a long time!
Hope she/he can get over whatever is the problem...
