Emptiness of his heart because lack of love. Love of GOD. Our purpose here on earth is to praise and worship GOD not ourselves.

It profits the soulless man a great deal. He doesn't care about heaven, doesn't believe in a god, a soul, and afterlife such as a spiritual man does. And who knows who is right. But, even though I'm not into the Bible much, I do believe in a higher power that I would like to rejoin some day & so, I'm poor financially, yet rich in living life. We all have to make our choices & live and die with them. A-a-a-men. :)

Are you looking for a definition of that phrase? I would say it means that material things can get in your way so much that you forget that there is a spiritual dimension that you should take care of. None of us live forever.
