I think you mean stop devastating large forest fires. For a healthy forest, there must be some small forest fires once in a while to burn the underbrush that builds up. If this brush builds up due to all fires being stopped in the area, then eventually it will catch on fire and firefighters won't be able to put it out. So the best way to stop forest fires is to actually start them, as long as they are controlled, healthy, natural fires, not the wild fires that destroy all life.

Forest fires are a big hazard and if they are not controled in time we loose a lot of green cover which is very important for our environment. Forest fires are not very easy to control and so the best is to prevent them.

Fire lines is a good way where some stretch of forest is cut down and nothing is allowed to grow here. If fire breaks up this acts as a hurdle in its spreading. If possible we can cut down some trees around the fire (at some distance certainly) and creat fire lines.

Now to stop fires spread due to human activities you will need to educate people about importance of forests. These educational and awareness activities will help a lot in making a group of people who can act immeditly to stop fire.

We should ask people not do create any kind of fire, not to smoke in and around forest areas especially in the summers.
