Aside from the usual things such as ear mites and worms.... I have two cats that I rescued from farms. One is a full grown adult, and the other is still young (they are not from the same place and I've had the adult for 3 years longer than the baby). Are there any problems either mentally or physically that farm cats might suffer from more than cats born elsewhere?

There is alot of inbreeding among farm/barn cats--which can cause a weakened immune system and some genetic disorders. They seem to be more susceptible to respiratory illnesses. Sometimes problems don't show up until they are 2-3 years old.

Yeah, you have to be careful. I've had many farm cats and sometimes they get a disease called FIP(Feline Infectious Peritonitis). Usually you can see the signs pretty early on or your cat could just be a carrier. One of my farm cats died from this. His brian was damaged and became metnally retarded and couldnt move. But don't worry. If your really conserned, visit your vet and get your cats blood tested for all possible feline diseases. But keep in mind that luekemia will sometimes show negative when the cat may acctually have it. I would suggest taking in the little ones to the vet for the blood tests. Im sure the adult is fine. Just make sure they have every shot they need if they are outdoor cats.

I would suspect diseases are more prevalent due to the fact they hunt rodents in a natural environment, as well as the possibility of injury/death from the farm environment or predators. They are in the wild compared to house cats and may not have been fed balanced meals such as cat food.
