It's possible that something has happened that has caused her to be stressed out. Does she normally go outside? If not, it could have been her trip outside that upset her. If she does, it might still be a very good idea not to let her out while she's in heat, unless you WANT her to have kittens. And no, cats don't need to have kittens to be happy. If they do have kittens, for the sake of their health they should be above one year old (and it shouldn't be the first time they're in heat).

Our kitten managed to have an accident the other day because my son (soon 8 years old) came to visit and played rather extensively with her, and that stressed her out, especially as she'd never met him before. So consider what's happened in your home during the day. Has something changed from normal routine? Have you changed her food, her litter, the place where the litterbox is? Has someone she's never met come to visit? Has someone who is normally "always" there been away? Anything of those (and a number of other things) can make a cat upset, and peeing where they aren't supposed to is a sign that they're uncomfortable with something.

I would suggest getting her neutered (full castration, removing ovaries and womb), since that is the healthier choice for her. If it's the first time she's in heat (you don't mention how old she is or anything), it could be simply that the feelings are new to her and that in itself has stressed her out.

Of course, if you see other signs of her feeling badly, or if this peeing continues, it would be a good idea to take her to a vet and have her examined. It could be the first signs of a urinary tract infection.

I hope everything goes well for you and your kitty =)

The first thing you should do is clean the spot. You need to use a special cleaner, the best ones are at vet clinics. They are special cleaners that will take out the smell of cat pee (which is NASTY) so we cant smell it, but more importantly, so the CAT cant smell it. Mr Clean, baking soda etc wont work. You want to do this step so your cat doesnt establish a pattern for not repeating the innappropriate urination. (cats will pee again if you dont do this right, with the right cleaners) Test the cleaner you get in a small area, just in case it does react with your carpet.

The next step is "why" the cat did this. I dont think kitty did it for some male love. You should take the cat to a vet to be checked for medical reasons. (eg bladder infection) Before you go, clean the litter box. Do this the night before you go to the vet, and then the day of, scoop some of the urine in the litter into a sealed baggie. That will help the vet do an analysis on the urine. (easier than a needle to kitty's bladder) This will help you to see if she urinated for a medical reason or "other" reason.

If it is "other", look at your house from a cat perspective. Is the litterbox in a high traffic area? Move it to a quieter area. (not the laundry room...cats are afraid of the noises many times) Has a child scared the cat when she used her litter box? (will make her afraid to use it) New litter? Needs to be cleaned more often? (think of us in that tiny area with extreme scent....we'd want it changed a lot too)

Another thing you may want to do is spay your cat. (you knew I would say that, right?) Female cats that are spay are healthier and less likely to get a lot of diseases from cancer to bladder infections. They are also a LOT quieter....because they dont go into heat. If she is spay you dont have to worry about unwanted kittens if you let her out too. (please dont do that..there are SO many cats euthanized per year because of unwanted kittens being born) :(

My cat did that in our old place and we still don't know why. The vet ran tests for a bladder infection and diabetes, but they came back negative. Make sure her litter box is clean and you're not using scented litter. Also, make sure the box is in a quiet, private area. Cats are like humans and like private potty spots. Finally, get yourself some heavy duty pet stain cleaner and make sure that spot is completely clean. Then put some tin foil or thick plastic in the area to deter her from using that spot as a bathroom again. Also, check with your vet to make sure she does not have some sort of infection which could cause her to not use the litter box.

First of all---get her spayed!!! Yes she is peeing partially because she's in heat--then you let her outside and I'm betting all the "boys" in neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods are stalking about your house!! So -- she's in heat, her urine attracts the boys, she's been outside briefly "annointing" the area, they're outside, she knows they're outside, pee=attraction. Time for a trip to the vet!! Not exactly scientific but you get my drift!!

I've got just 2 things to say.
1.CLEAN HER UP...... NOW!!!!!!!!
2.She's a cat and obviously not toilet- trained. She'll pee anywhere she can.Cats are territorial. She's probably using her pee to mark her territory because she perceives a threat to her position. My guess is that she's just doing what she has been naturally programmed to do. I would suggest that you wouldn't worry about it so much.Treat her nice and she'll be back to her good old self. She needs your love and attention.
