Him and I are both 13 and are considering it for the future. My parents say they can only pay like 75% of my college tutition and I do not know about him.But he wants to know if fighting is against his faith.I am hindu (the most hated religion lol because everyone really does not get it and thinks i worhsip a cow) and in my faith non violence is enforced but if it is to protect society and people then it can be used.Kiling others for power or to advance your religion is against my faith. So im pretty safe for a short period o military life.I do not know about him however.

Since you're both 13 and we'll be out of Iraq and Afghaistan by the time you are 18, there is nothing totally anti-Christian about an Army that is designed to protect a way of life of your fellow man and family.

I think the current situation in Iraq, however, is not a very Godly one. They didn't do anything directly to us.

Undestand, however, the Military is a way of life and it will NOT be an easy one.

You have to eat the food you are given and BEEF is going to be a large portion of it. They will NOT give you extra veggies. You want to suppliment you must do it on your own $$$.

They pay is not high and today YOU have to buy your own stuff. It's not like it was when I got drafted.

The GI BILL is good and more importantly if you pick the right Military Job and CAN FINISH training you can actually get a usable skill. Just CHOOSE wisely.

They will, for example, give you enough training to be an EMT or LVN or Water Purification Specialist and that can lead to $30K a year jobs in the outside world. Shooting a rifle will probably not get you much money, so stay away from that!

Don't shoot higher then your intellgence allows, for example 80% of the people who attempt to become Pharmacy Techs flunk out.

If you FLUNK out they can PUT YOU ANYWHERE.

You get one choice, maybe two. After that you go into the Infantry or where ever they want you to be.

YOu pull guard duty at night. You pull KP in the mess hall. You get up at 5 am, go to sleep at 9 pm, sleep with windows open six inches to prevent menengitis, even if there is snow outside.

You get two sheets, one pillow, one blanket.

You must conform and have your locker and footlocker in perfect order. You must clean the area to their specifications.

It is NOT an easy life.

To get a good education you need to be in for 4 years.

Some people like it and stay forever.

You do get FREE TRAVEL (called "hops" to and from any base via any "service") You get discount airfare on commercial airlines when in uniform.

There is a small chance you will get killed in some battle, even in peace time.

You may be called upon to shoot and kill others.

You are not allowed to questioin authority, but are expected to know right from wrong.

Thoese people in the jails doing horrible things with prisoners did things wrong and they went to jail and get dishonorably discharged for following orders they should have taken up with higher authorities.

YOu sleep in a room with 50 people in bunk beds. You go outside to another room to shower in next to nothing in -5 degree weather in the dark, you come back inside with a towel and wet hair into a room that is 50 degrees and dress and RUN to the mess hall.

They will RUN you in formation.

It is like your PE class ALL day long and you are pushed about by PE teachers ALL day long.

It is not an easy life.

A true Christian would follow Jesus' example and harm no one. To join the army puts you in the situation where you may be ordered to shoot and kill someone [ usually the enemy.]
A true Christian SHOULD rather go to jail than cause anyone any harm.
And when you know that the Bible promises that wars will be made to cease, it includes armies as well.
If you are in the army. you will be CEASED.........deCEASED.

(Psalm 46:9) He is making wars to cease to the extremity of the earth. The bow he breaks apart and does cut the spear in pieces; The wagons he burns in the fire.

No it is not against Christianity, it may be against some denominations, but God does not mind. In fact the United States Military, all branches, swear loyalty to GOD and Country in that order.

Depends on which branch of christianity you talk to. Most would say it is fine.

But tell your friend to please not do it? Especially the ground troops. Too much death in Iraq right now and enlisted people are bearing the brunt of it. Tell him, at the very least, before he makes such an important decision to talk to someone who has BEEN there (not the army recruiter) so he can make an informed decision.

I personally believe it is against Christianity.

Reason? God has allowed man free will. "And" a bounteous environment are gifts from God to all men, good and bad alike, to use as they wish. But man is sinful; and, in consequence, the society he,"man", creates includes many injustices. He also allows Satan to test our faith in many ways. But they are man's responsibility, not God's.
