I was thinking a giant sun in honour of the solstice, which is the TRUE meaning of the holidays BEFORE christianity hijacked the season.

Any other, non christian ideas?

I've always enjoyed the holidays, and have no intention of stopping celebrating a time of year which was celebrated for millenia beofre Jesus.

A Non-religious suggestion would be to top your tree as Dave Letterman does each year.
A cheese pizza, a huge meatball, and I forget the rest. Oh, a statue of Empire State building (this holds meatball)
I am sure you have seen this.

Another idea is something from your children. As family traditions go a tree with things made (& dated) is quite amazing 20 years later. As each form a memory.

A Santa Claus, a star, I have a teddy bear tree top on mine. Though I am a Christian and do celebrate the holiday as Christ's birthday. I'm glad you enjoy the holidays, and I don't think anyone is demanding that you celebrate it as a Christian holiday. Not all Christians are going to try to shove the true meaning of Christmas down your throat.

If your doing a Yule tree then why not a nice star. Are you going to celebrate Yule/Solstice on the 22nd? At my house we do Blue and Gold to celebrate the birth of the Holy King.

I have a male and female cardinal pair sitting at the top of my tree. I don't do a star or a big welcoming angel. I go for the nature symbols. Happy Holly Days!!

Why top the tree? Do you have to? I don't like putting Christian stuff on mine either. Hmmm... that's a tough one. The sun sounds cool though. Good luck.

I would say top the tree with a moon to celebrate a true goddess!

I had this problem too. I have a snowman on the top of my tree, but I like the idea of a sun. A hugeasse Darwin fish might be pretty up there too. Or a many-tentacled FSM

I usually put a star on top of my tree. Which probably 75% of everyone else does too.

I think the sun would be appropriate. Or how about some symbol of hope?
