I have a black lab and a chocolate lab---the black lab is the most laid back, easiest going dog I've ever owned. He was easy to train and is a joy! The chocolate (I love him to pieces but--) has been the most stubborn, hard headed goof I've ever owned. He was hyper from the get go and now finally at the age of 10 is calming down. I've never had a yellow--maybe that's somewhere between the black and chocolate. I love my chocolate's looks (and the old guy is lovable just cause he is a big goofball). If you're looking for trainability and just an all around well behaved dog--go for the Black lab. Some people say large dogs don't live long, but my Black Lab -Bear- will be 17 this year! Someone told me the chocolate is a genetic defect--I don't know if it's true--but I've yet to meet a chocolate lab that isnt a total hyper goofball!!

I am getting a Lab in December and I've decided on Gold. If I can't get gold, black. I wouldn't want a chocolate Lab. I think it just comes down to personal preference. Like I said, I would get a gold Lab but if I couldn't get a gold Lab from a breeder, black.
Goodluck on picking which Lab you want.

we have had labs for my whole life [44 yrs] Ive had 3 blacks 1 yellow and 1 cho.[now] the blacks have been the most loving and healthy the yellow and cho. were the most aggresive the cho we have now we got from a friend who bred his female to another cho both dogs are healthy and loving and good hunters but ours has a "hunting dog deasese" where he burns up all the sugar in his system and gets wobly so the vet said to carry sugary snacks for him when hes working. it helps but we have to be carful not to lose sight of him when hes hunting in tall weeds or water [which he loves] because he could go down and get lost and die from no sugar. there is a simple mouth swab to tell if the puppy has the deasese. I cant remember the offical name of the deasese. ask the vet

I've had both black and yellow labs and the only difference I've seen that a yellow lab's coat is harder to take care of. Their fur is longer and sheds more often.
Other than that, they seem the same to me. They are both intelegent dogs.

Well any lab makes a great companion. If you do not wish to have black hair all over your clothes and house get a yellow lab if the hair being visable doesn't bother you get the black . I have a blakc and when he sheds i can't keep up with cleaning up the hair!

honestly, there's no difference between them other than color. that's just a personal opinion. in my personal opinion it's easier to have a yellow lab if you're in the county and easier to have a black lab if you're in the city. yellows stand out at night, blacks don't show dirt on their coats. my personal favorites are chocolate labs. but that's a choice other people can't make for u.

Yellow or black it does not matter they are both one of the most intelligent breeds . Once they are trained when they are young they are big and stupid . They take a lot of work , not beatings work . Once they grow up though they are one of the best dogs ever , but I warn you they are some of the most bull headed stupid funny dogs when they are puppies and young adults . But remember it is proven Labs no matter what color are the best with children

Well they are both very good dogs if you get the right breeding.
Everyone has yellow labs because they are cute and look like andrex puppies!!
it depends what you want the dog for if you just want it as a pet then you could have any but black labs are better as working dogs as they want to please you more.
Hope this helps x

Well, the dogs have so much in common. Its between if you like yellow or black. Don't forget to look at the dogs behavior. You should then be able to narrow it down. Good Luck!

I even have had the two form of breeds. The labs require plenty extra workout and are plenty extra hyper than a golden retriever. Golden retrievers are hyper besides. even nevertheless, they provide the impact of being to quiet down swifter. in case you're worried with regard to the fur... Labs shed extra desirable than Golden's. even nevertheless the golden retriever has longer fur, the laying off isn't almost as undesirable because it quite is with a Labrador. the ingredient is, you do ought to sweep out a golden retriever extra desirable than a lab so as that the fur does not tangle. If I had to make a call from each and each breed, i might %. the canines that takes to me extra desirable. each and every canines has it incredibly is very own character and act in any different case to diverse people. even whilst they're puppies! subsequently, in case you have one among each and every already picked out, go visit each and each and notice which one has a bigger repor with you because of the fact the two breeds are quite superb!
