Well when you get him to look up and make eye contact smile, and look down then back up holding your smile. If your shy at all it should be some what natural to blush a bit. if he is close enough when it happens say hi otherwise wait for him to break the eye contact and go about your day. Unless he is uninterested or just slow it should work.
