According to mapquest, it is about 942 miles between Omaha, NE and Jamestown NY, so I would imagine that the distance between Omaha, NE and the state of New York would be just shy of 942 miles. However, you could be referring to another Omaha, in a different state/country.... Also, you did not define new york state... are you referring to the closest point in the state of New York, or a university within the boundaries of the state of New York.
The correct answer to this question depends on one's interpretation of the question.
