If the local college(s) has a music program, then check there. Oftentimes there will also be a community choir. Also check area high schools. It's not as likely, but occasionally the choral teacher will also have a community choir. If they don't have a choir, they would still be a good person to ask about area choirs. If you are christian, then churches almost always have a choir (I can't speak for other religions, but you could look into it).

Another resource: Ask at the local music store. Look for a store that sells sheet music and instruments, rather than CD's. Music stores know what groups are performing where because the conductor has to order the music for the choir somewhere. Stores usually keep a database of private teachers in the area. I would think the same would be true for area choirs.

Have a look at the entertainment notices in your local newspaper, have a look at flyers in arts centres or check in your local music shop if you have one.
