It is really sad what some people think the Church to be. I see so many false answers on this. see some of my other answers if you want a clearer picture.
"there are not 100 people who hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they think it to be" Archbishop Fulton Sheen
Yes Catholics are Christian and yes their church is the first church.
Someone wrote Christianity is not buildings I've heard that claim before and the answer sounds good at first but why do they really phrase it like this? because they are attempting to misled others into believing the Catholic Church is only buildings without spiritual content. Lets reverse this shall we, Christianity is also buildings and architecture and sacred art because they are all an expression of our love for God. The real reason these are denied by those who don't have them is simply because they don't have a history. These buildings are a historical record an archelogy of where the true Church can be found. There are no non-Catholic Christian structures or records or art or even bibles prior to the 16th century. During early Christianity you find the regular usage of visual artwork to tell the gospel story. Not everyone could read and not everyone could afford to have a bible copied for their private use the buildings themselves were the gospel story.
I could go on and on but this is already an extremely long answer for yahoo, I would like to say getting answers from this forum will never satisfy see my sources below. For the people claiming the teaching of purgatory and other doctrine aren't in the bible they are you've not been taught know to recognize them, and purgatory is not a Catholic creation the first covenant peoples the Isaelites also believed in a purification of those who have physically dead see: kaddish prayer.

Catholics and all other denominations proclaiming Christianity are the same in their belief that Jesus Christ was the Son of God:The Messiah.
Jesus of Nazareth did not "found" a church. Jesus promoted universal love and understanding among humans. Only after the death of Jesus did "churches" begin to emerge.
The Bishop of Rome, currently Pope Benedict XVI, is the recognized authority of the Catholic community. The United Methodists, the Presbyterians, the General Baptists, the Southern Baptists, the Free Will Baptists, the Mennonites, have their hierarchy of leadership. Each consider themselves Christians, with varying doctrines. Even Muslims consider themselves Christian. Jews are not considered Christian because they do not recognize Jesus Christ as "The Messiah; only a prophet.
The Simpson's are cartoon characters, developed by writers, encouraged by TV producers, to titillate the viewers and elevate ratings. The Simpson's will "spoof" anything, motherhood, education, health care, etc. to garner an audience.

There is no difference between the Catholic Church and Christianity
The Roman Catholic Church is part of the Christian Church ruled by the Bishop of Rome (the Pope). In the early Church the papacy exercised authority over all Christians.

Now not quite a bit particularly. Born out of Constantine Legalized by using him and quickly gained energy. There were businesses of 'heretics " they stamped out just like the Montanists and others. Catholics pray to saints . Call on St Anthony to find misplaced objects and ill animals Get to head to confession, Have a shorter ceremony, They feel the church is authorized by means of God to forgive sins. They believe the pope is infallible. They venerate saints and Mary . They give final rites . They existed longer so they made concessions to pagan celebrations. Their clergymen don't marry . Pastors do marry. Catholics consider that communion is when the wine and bread turns into the specific body and blood of Jesus after it is blessed by means of a priest. They mostly have more children because the church frowns on delivery control. They have a wealthy mystical tradition inside the priest craft. Catholics use a Catholic Bible that includes the apocrypha or the new Jerusalem Bible and every other they have got more options for mass. They make the signal of the cross and use holy water that has been blessedby a priest. .Martin Luther had issues with the Catholic church and didn't intend to begin a schism over the selling of indulgences and "holy relics" that he felt weren't actual. Christians pray to God via Jesus. They confess their sins to God instantly alternatively of a priest. Regularly the laity will learn the Bible but an abbreviated one like King James. They've a pastor who is married. They hold offerings once or twice a week. They have got communion however don't suppose it becomes the actual body and blood of Christ but is a method to recall Jesus .

There are two major divisions in the Christianity - one is Catholic and the other Protestants. Again there are sub-divisions in both the sects.
Christian Church normally denotes Catholic churches. It is Pope who sits in the Rome and not the Bishop. The Pope is the supreme Shepperd of the Catholic Christians.
The history does not say that Jesus founded the Church. Gospels also do not mention any such thing.
Catholic church was involved in violence to convert people to their religion. Martin Luther was burnt alive by the Catholics. Then there was the great Spanish Inquisition in which the Pope himself was involved.

Yes, Catholic and Christian are indeed the same. For most of the history of Christianity the Catholic Church was the only Christian Church on earth, just as its founder Jesus Christ intended it to be. It was only a few hundred years ago that men started to found unauthorized churches of their own, in direct violation of the stated will of God - "that they all may be ONE". This manmade tradition, founded on the unbiblical principles of sola scriptura and sola fide, has resulted in nothing but ongoing division, fragmentation, and doctrinal chaos. But the original Christian Church, the ONE Church founded by Jesus Christ for all men, the Catholic Church, remains unified in its teaching and its worship after 2,000 years, just as Jesus Christ intended it to, leading its members to salvation in the grace of our Lord, Savior and founder, Jesus Christ.

Catholicism is a sect of Christianity. The first to recognise Christ in fact.
At one stage the Catholics, from the Holy Roman Empire, ruled most of Europe, kings included. Other sects, such as Lutherism, (Protestants) came into being when some led by Luthera broke away from the religious oppression being practiced by the church.
Anglicans came into being when Henry 8th of England said "Up yours, I WILL divorce Catherine of Aragon and I start my OWN church that says divorce is okay. IN fact anything I say will be okay. Today the british monarchy, the Queen of England, is still head of the Anglican church.
Other sects came into being of their own violition for their own reasons. Religion of all sorts, although useful spiritually, has always been a powerful people controller and a perfect vehicle for maintaining the oppression of women.

The biggest difference is that catholics believe they have to do sacrements for salvation. Protestants believe Christ did all the work, all we do to be saved is believe. Catholics also believe at communion that the wine and bread actually become the blood and flesh of Christ, we do not.
