Young of the year have 2 toned wings, the primaries and secondaries (flight feathers) are lighter in colour than the coverts. As well if you manage to get a look inside its mouth (if its cawing at you...) and you see pink instead of black that also indicates its a young of the year. If you can't make out any of these features all you can say is adult bird... The wing features are only good until the bird molts and the mouth coloration starts changing rather soon as well.

No, there is no one feather or any one feature that you can age a bird with. Different species have different things to look at to try and determine age. Most times you can only tell whether a bird is a "hatch year", "after-hatch year", "second year",and "after second year". Beyond that is pretty much impossible unless a bird is banded and then caught so many years later. Woodpeckers are about the only bird that can be aged to a specific year beyond "after second year".

A qualified bird-bander bands it, then releases it back into the wild. Then when the bird dies or if another bird-bander catches it again they can come up with a minimum age of the crow.
