What I think you should be asking yourself is why not believe in God, God is love, happiness, caring, sharing, honest, compassionate, forgiving, devoted and the list goes on and on, but I would be lost if I did not have these things in my life and who better to believe in but the God who will give me all of this and more if only I believe in him and I also share this love with others. So don't let what some of the peoples question and answers get to you if you want to know the truth, just open up your Bible you won't go wrong.

Sounds like you want a serious answer. There are a lot of VERY sarcastic people on here, unfortunately. BUT, I believe in God, because of everything I see around me daily, answered prayer- A LOT, sometimes it's scary, when you can see His intervention after the fact. Some are so far from Him that they will probably never believe in Him, because they won't experience the gifts he has for us here- or after death. etc.

Ronin and Black Parade Billie (?) seem closest, imo. We imagine we have a soul (something that survives physical death) and that the God we keep hearing about is some big sky hook that will bring us home as we die. It's totally a figment of our imagination and no matter how much we believe in that story it will never be more true than the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But we're so afraid of death and the anonymity that that engenders that we will believe anything to avoid thinking of it.

I was told a long time ago, that every culture worships something - from the Sun to Buddha to God. We need a higher being. That someone else is in control. That someone is looking out for us. That someone loves us unconditionally. I think that this is true to an extent. Mainly I think that it is because out parents did, and they took us to church every Sunday. Or perhaps an event in our life changed us into believing. It can be anything from traditions to personal experiences. Humans are fickle that way. I hope this helps.

Because the spirit of God is within your heart an prompts you to seek the truth. See romans 1-19/20, all things made of God have been shown from creation all that is to know of God even unto the eternal power and Godhead. this is the root of "faith"

evil should not be a sound reason that disbelieve God existence. The mystery is explain in God's written word "through one man (Adam) sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they have all sined". Nothing came into existence on itself. You can't say a old house in the forest came be itself, someone might have lived there.

God of the gaps! (Like whenever there is a gap in human knowledge, we fill it with god)

Human mysteries fade. We know the earth moves around the sun now - Gods don't pull the sun across the sky. We know that germs make people ill - Gods don't strike them with disease for being sinful.

As we get less gaps in human knowledge, there are less and less gaps for god to hide in.

"For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature, namely His eternal power and deity has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse" (Romans 1:19,20)

For the scoffers who sneer at the above, it continues,

For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools...) (verses21,22)

Been there - done that - thanks to God, not no more !
