Yes, you are rigth, it is a very common Arabic word. Literally "7abibi"(habibi) means "my love", but only when referred to a male and "7abebti"(habibti) toward a female. The synonym of "7abibi" is "7obbi" ( again "my love).
The root comes from the Arabic word for love "7ob" (hob).
Dear, I am using on purpose the sign "7" as frequently could be seen in Arabic into English and denotes that the "H" sound is pronounced deep in the throat , not as the usual normal "h".
Hope that is of help.
Have a great day!
