how do you tell a morning doves gender?

we found a dove and i would like to know if its a boy or girl

Without knowing what kind of dove, the answers you've gotten so far may or may not be right.
With all types of doves, the male does a posturing where he stands tall next to the female and does his hoot hooting call filling his crop with air between hoots.
If you're able to hold and pet the dove it will bond with you in a couple of days. If it's a male it will claim you as it's mate and do the posturing, mating ritual.
