Whether you buy coffee in bean form or pre-ground, there are many tips to ensure the best cup of coffee. Beans are favourable but not always possible. Here are some tips:

- buy small amounts of coffee.

- keep coffee in an air tight container. Part of the flavour of coffee comes from the aroma

- ensure that the water used is filtered

- the water temperature of the coffee should be 195F degrees

- ensure that the sprayer attached to the coffee maker is clean and clear. A plugged or dirty sprayer will not allow the water to hit all of the grounds in an even manner

- as soon as the coffee is finished brewing, dispose of the grounds immediately. If you are making full pot of coffee, it takes 64 oz of water which will produce 59 oz of coffee. The remaining 5 oz is still sitting in the used grounds. This will eventually drip into the pot over the next few minutes causing the coffee to start tasting bitter and burnt.

- do not put a lid on the coffee pot to heep it hot. This causes condensation which will water down the coffee

- dispose of coffee after 20 minutes

The method I have just described is the process used by Tim Hortons, Canada's largest coffee chain. Tim Horton's motto is "Always Fresh" and they take coffee brewing very seriously. Their training module for coffee is called "The Art of Coffee".

I am the operations manager for Canada's largest University Food Service Department. Last year, we sold 1.1 million cups of coffee ($3.2 million dollars in Tim Horton sales alone). We own our own franchises that include 14 Tim Hortons, 3 Starbucks, 1 Williams Coffee Pub. We know coffee.

The best way of making coffee to enjoy its flavour is to buy your coffee as whole beans then freshly grind it just before brewing a coffee drink. Never grind more coffee than you will use for immediate brewing. Once the beans are ground, the flavourful oils are exposed to the damaging air. As these oils dissipate, so will the flavour of your coffee. It is the main secret to enjoy the coffee flavor at its best. You will enjoy the smell of roasting coffe as well which is done before grinding.☺

Renate is absolutely correct.
Use a Paper Filter with the Melita Method - the Gold Cone is not as good. Always grind your own Beans - I buy my Beans from Pete's Coffee in San Francisco -
they have a great website. I like their Arabian Mocha Beans.

Hm. Well, personally, I would say to get your favorite Torani (or other brand) flavouring, and add enough to where there is no longer a perceptable coffee taste...

Otherwise I guess you should go with a response from someone who actually thinks coffee is somehow palatable... :D

Drip method is the only way. Get a Melitta drip coffee set.

Grind you own beans or use Fench Market Coffee

Boil filtered water and pour over the very fine grounds
