Benzoyl peroxide is an excellent choice for treating acne. Proactive is a superior line to try, because it has a good concentration of medicine - enough to be effective for those who respond well to it; not enough to typically irritate your skin. The products are also pleasant to use. No medicinal fragrance or overdrying effects to alert everyone around you that you're using the product.

Some people respond better to salicylic acid. (Not me - it actually causes me to have cystic acne when I normally don't!)
If you don't respond well to benzoyl peroxide, then I would recommend Murad products.

The action between the two medications is completely different. Benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria responsible for acne, while salicylic acid promotes cellular turnover to keep your pores cleared out. Even though they have completely different actions, don't try to use the two medicines simultaneously - it will be too irritating to your skin and might actually make the problem worse.

A proper cleansing routine is only part of the picture. Diet DOES matter - contrary to what many physicians will tell you. Steer clear of foods and beverages high in iodine. (Shellfish, energy drinks like Dr. Enuf, etc). Also foods which are high in acidity - orange juice (not oranges, but juice concentrate), pickles, etc can be a culprit in huge outbreaks. Especially cystic acne.

Be careful of the products you use. Shampoos, conditioners, hairspray, and make up also make a HUGE difference. You can do some research on what products are "safe" and what ingredients to avoid at www.sageskincare.com. I'm not recommending their products, but that website does have excellent information. Making necessary changes in your diet or cosmetics can go a long way towards preventing the very problems you're attempting to treat.

Not to sound cliche, but when it comes to battling acne, you really have to search below the surface....you need to be a detective and your own best friend. Hope this helps!

I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!

Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:

1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn’t use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured…if we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don’t want us to know.

There is a great website: http://cure-my-acne.info/3daycure/ that has all the details. I really suggest you check it out and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.

Start drinking lots of water now. Wash your face at least 3 times a day with a mild soap. Keep your hair away from your face. I use Clearasil face wash. It comes in a blue tube and cost about $3. Works great for me. Once I had thick bangs cut in and that cause awful acne on my forehead. I took some TP and wet it with alcohol and placed it on it for several minutes several times a day. It really helped the redness and it cleared it fast.

My friend swears by that proactive stuff but I've never tried it b/c I never had really harsh acne.

Drink 8 bottles of water a day to flush out intoxants. Excercise Regularly.Wash twice daily to remove oil which is the basic cause of your acne. Tone to minimize your pores. Remember to moisturize from it getting dry. and finally a little acne cream/treatment never harms speeding the process up.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Go for a facial or consult a dermatologist. Usually exterior treatment has to go hand in hand with interior. No I am not referring to taking medication. I mean a healthy diet . Usually it's a reflective of your digestive system. Take lots of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water. Constipation also contributes to acne problem. So ensure you detox daily . I am speaking from personal experience. Take care of your hygiene and watch your diet . Good Luck !

I use a mask called Ancient Earth it worked pretty well for me. If you have oily skin use it everyday for the first week and then one a week after that. And also drink plenty of water. And if your skin becomes overly dry do an avocado mask ( just get like half an avocado mash it up and put it on your face)
