I finally JUST found her paperwork from the SPCA, yea took me about 3 months to find it again, how long does it take for a female cat to go into heat, at what age do they normally start the crazy howling?

Thanks Ronna, I hope to get Honey, my cat, spayed sometime within the next couple of days, even though she is, near 8 months. She was 4 months in August, and then 5 months when I lost her paperwork, and then 7 months when I found it. *bits lower lip* Whoops. So, since I have off on Wednesday from work, *YAY*, I'll have to make an appointment to get her snipped.

Luckily, we don't have male cats around, NOR does she go outside.

Cats usually go into heat about every six months or more frequently. The crazy howling is all dependant on the cat. some just become lovingly annoying. Generally if she hasn't ever been outside she won't howl, that is more normal of indoor/outdoor cats. Make sure to get some solarcaine for the spay, it will dull the pain and help prevent any infections, it may scare her at first though because it is an aerosol. But it works great.

Anywhere betwee 4-7 months of age they can go into their first heat, so it's good to get them spayed forsure between 3-6 months.
They will do the yowling whenever they go into heat.
An unspayed female cat can go into heat several times per year (4 or so) if not impregnanted.
Spayed females have fewer health problems and live longer.

Hi your doing a good thing getting your girl spayed less health problems to. female cats can start calling at about 5 months but mine didn't call until she was over a year old.
Good luck with your appointment on Wednesday.

I do not think you have anyting to worry about because most vets will not even spay a cat until they are at least 6 months of age.A female cat usually goes into its first heat around 8-12months.The characteristics of a cat in heat are leaning forward with bottom in air while marching in place and screaming. The female cat also can spray.

When they feel like it. Then shoot it.
