I think most people lack the insight and knowledge to recognize the huge impact they have on the future. Until people are able to think beyond the present, many environmental concerns, even something as simple as recycling, will never be taken seriously. Also, some people are just selfish. They understand the importance, but simply don't care because they know they'll be long gone before major damage has taken place. If recycling were required to avoid monetary fines, or legal punishment, it would make a huge difference. Some people would still fail to recycle, but they would be the minority.

Some people do. Some don't.
There are very different behaviors depending on the regions and people. A huge issue is that in some areas and for some items, even carrying the recyclable items to the nearest plant to have them recycled costs more than what the plants pays for them.
It occurs more in rural areas. Money is also an issue.
Many people are not ready to pays one penny more to have a curbside recycling program.
However, some US citizens strongly believe in recycling and do it.

Where did you hear that? Millions of people in the U.S. recycle. Unfortunately once you add up the cost of the people, equipment, maintenance, repairs, fuel and insurance, it's certainly not worth the effort. It actually costs MORE to recycle than it does to simply discard our "recycleables".

In countries where recycling and waste reduction are more common and standard practices, you will probably find government regulations that make dumping more expensive for consumers and corporations. Simply put we have more cheap land build landfills and dumps.

statisticly speaking Christians do not care for Nature ,or the conservation of the Environment.
(before anybody blows up this is Not everybody but generally speaking yes)
And many Americans are Christians ,So are Mexicans and their behaviour towards Nature is down right criminal

Europeans are much more responsible as far as their Environment is concerned.
