Not to mention: Peter went on to become indispensable in the founding of the Church.

I think this shows how one can return to God and all the good things one can accomplish when one does so.

The name Peter translates into the rock, Peter was paet of the foundation of the church, I believe that Jesus knew the answer to the question, but he wanted Peter to realize how much this love would mean to Jesus.

God is infinitely good and holy. No matter what we do, if we turn back to Him, he is always waiting with open arms. This is also an example of how many times we are to forgive a person. It goes along with Jesus saying "I say forgive 70 x 7." Or meaning no matter how many times and how hard it is we are to forgive a person.

The Lord directs all things. ALL things. He directed Peter to return to Him just as He directed Judas to betray Him. The Lord's plan is perfect. All things are as they should be.

That the flesh is in conflict with the spiritual person. Jesus knew this; He lived as a man. Having done this, He understands the weaknesses we bear in our flesh, and forgives them.

This shows us that anyone with a repentant heart can not only be forgiven by God but also used of Him greatly. We are to follow this example and be ready to forgive those who repent and love and pray for those who don't.

No matter what we do, God wants to forgive us and only if we ask Him. If we turn our back on God, He wants us to come back to Him. He loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to save us from our sins. God loves the sinner, and hates the sin.

Jesus understands how weak we are...and how much we need Him.

He wants to accept the truth about ourselves...and move on.

AND: He wants us to help each other:

Luke 22:31-32 (NIV)

"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

God knows good people when he sees 'em.

God is also quick to forgive when we apologize, and sincerely repent.

What more could anyone ask?
