It says what it says. Don't compromise, or try to rationalize. Interpret it as literal.

I don't read this as God speaking. Chronicles was written by a person, looking back on historical events, and interpreting them through a particular filter. The Hebrew Scriptures are written by a people with an understanding of their relationship with God as a covenant. If they were faithful to keep their part, God would be faithful with His.

"The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment, with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now ONE GREATER THAN SOLOMON IS HERE (that is, Christ)." (Luke 11:31) "To them (the saints) God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27). "...for He has said, 'I will never fail you nor forsake you' " (Hebrews 13:6).
I have long thought it a sad thing that Solomon did not listen to his father David. Thankfully, I have a better hope than Solomon; that is, a better covenant, based on better promises. (Hebrews 8:6)

This is God's covenant with the line of David, and although the overall dynasties would be blessed, the warning was also there for the ones that rejected God. Sounds free-will, interesting verse for a Calvinist to read. Would like to hear some of their opinions on it.

WHAT EZEKIEL SAID
Eze.14:20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

Just explains why I react allergically to Bible, church, etc. I am being asked to SERVE and DEVOTE with no obvious RETURN. A merciful god would also not reject me for not believing in him. It is not MY fault that he makes himself invisible. He should know his creation better than to expect people to blindly believe in something and act upon it despite no proof. He made us more intelligent than that. IF it was true...

I like it all but that "reject you forever" part, because I believe that God never gives up on people and will always take them back in love.

Sounds like a dad scaring his son into believing the same stuff he does. Not much has changed.

Sounds like god is acting a bit spoiled. I'll love you only if you love me back.
True love is concerned with the welfare of the recipient without thought of payback or reward.
But, what do I know ...
