Social security pension is for life. You can claim it even if you are already a citizen of another country. You have just to prove your contributions.

I know Canadians who have lived and worked in the U.S. and they collect U.S. Soc. Security pensions and they are living in Canada. Even know a couple who both collect. There is another thing to know; if you are of working age and intend to work in Canada, there are two Canadian pensions that you can eventually get. One is a universal OAS (old age security) to which you do not contribute but is based on no. of years in country (this of course is funded from the public purse). The other is a contributory plan (CP - Canada Pension) and the payout is based on contributions and years worked.

There is also an RRSP (registered retirement savings plan in which you can pay into the plan( there are parameters) but you control the money and the amount invested is deducted from earned income for income tax purposes. This plan is yours no matter where you work.
The money is taxed when you withdraw it and since this would normally happen when you retire, your tax bracket would be lower.

Gshewman is right! You will be able to collect your US social security while living in Canada. My parents are Americans who immigrated to Canada many years ago. They now live 6 mos. in the US and 6 mos. in Canada and they collect their US social security as well as both of their Canadian pensions. Go for it!

He would be unable to get a social protection variety and not using a artwork visa or a green Card. in the u . s . he could discover an corporation to sponsor the visa for him, he would be unable to easily report for one. To get a green Card he'd choose a member of his on the spot relatives to be right here and report an immigration petition for him.
