Sometimes it's hard because they overlap. Basically, depression is a sad feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. It is a physical problem in the brain that can be treated with antidepressants. It helped to go to an online source that had a checklist, and if you answered yes to a certain amount of questions, then you may be depressed.. but honestly, I think I just knew the whole time.. why else would I have taken the test, or questioned it in the first place? Maybe if you're questioning it, you already know the answer.

You can tell if you are depressed if you want to sleep a lot, no appetite & would prefer to just be alone.
