Because God did give his Son, God could not die but the Son who was flesh could. Jesus was God manifested in the flesh. Read John 1:1 and verse 14. The fact that it has always been blood that brought sanctification, this is where we find the reason for the Son of God. The Son of God was not eternal but begotten. The word and/or term "son" means offspring. God could not shed blood because he is Spirit and spirits do not have flesh and blood. Thus the reason for the Son of God. If your using scripture lets not forget ! Tim 3:16 John, 10:30 John, John 14:9, Jesus was both fully God and fully man. Thus the reason for the term in Acts "Lord Christ" or God Man. Also Jesus was called Immanuel which means God with us. See Isaiah 9:6 and Matt. 1:23. The Jews were going to stone Jesus because he being a man made himself out to be God. See John 10:33. In Revelations Jesus referrers to himself as the Alpha and Omega, which no mortal man is unless he is God Almighty, which Jesus is.

Actually, since it ws written by a Jew, for other Jews, about a Jew. So then it should be translated this way...

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him[God] shall not perish but have eternal life."

The oringinal intent of John 3:16 wasn't to believe in Jesus (Church doctrine) but to believe in God.

I really agree on your opinion about the verse. However, when I looked at some other verses, I believe that Jesus is true God. For example, John 20: 27-28 "Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." Thomas answered and said to him "My Lord and my God!"
Besides, in Matthew 2:1-11 we can see several mentions of Wise Men worshipping the Christ Child. Christ also rebukes those who worshipped anything or anyone instead of one true God (Matt 4:7-11 & Luke 4:7-8). But Christ himself accepts worshipping himself as shown in the earlier verses. In addition, it has proved to me that his disciples recognized Him as God. Consider this verse too John 8:23-30.

God bless

We'll never fully understand the true relationship between God and Jesus. I believe that the Father/Son terms conveyed through the Bible are just there for mortals to get some sort of understanding of how those 2 beings relate to each other.

Jesus said in John 10:30 "I and the Father are one."

Surely you don't now have to argue whether or not he's really God.
That's not necessary.

I've brought this and other verses up and really- there are so many contradictions in the bible that I think it's best to not take it passage for passage but just try to get the main message of what it's trying to say (regarding morality)
If it had been a perfect work (of what they say is God's divine inspiration) It wouldn't have needed subtractions or additions, or even explanations or all of these strange analogies and metaphors.
If Jesus was God I think He would have said "I am God. Worship me. Follow what I command of you and I will save you from your sins"
Oh, wait.
I thought to be 'saved' all you had to do was admit that Lord Jesus is your savior.
I'm just as confused as you are.

The Holy Father of Christ ,GOD ,his Glory is so powerful
and his compassion is so unlimited, that by sending His Holy
Son ,as an instrument of salvation for every human on earth, shows how incommensurable and incomprehensible is
His Glory,to us as human beings, that even after His Son death,
Resurrection and Ascension ;.we still looking for mistakes or ways to erase that proved fact in the Human History.
now,GOD is SPIRIT,and the SPIRIT can TRANSFIGURE
in any form ,cause is PURE ENERGY STATE, nothing can hold or content it,as an example lets take the water;is a liquid no?
but if it freezes turns to what:a solid ,right, and when evaporated
turns in what ?; gas , but it still water ,but in 3 equally form states
so ,can we just say or accept that ,the HOLY FATHER,THE HOLY SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT,are 3 EQUALLY PERFECTLY MANIFESTATIONS OF THE SAME ONLY
POINT OF SPIRITUAL EMANATION ,or did i let you more confused than before, but i prefer to put it this way ;'we can't
understand what we can not comprehend ,

John 1:1-2
1{Christ, the Eternal Word--} In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God.
2He was in the beginning with God.
(NLT)

John 1:14
14So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.
(NLT)

Col 1:15-17
15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation.
16Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see-- kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him.
17He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together.
(NLT)

1 Tim 3:16
16 Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ appeared in the flesh and was shown to be righteous by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and was announced to the nations. He was believed on in the world and was taken up into heaven.
(NLT)

If they wrote it the way you say it, it would be wrong. The mistake here is in the translation. What you quoted is the NIV which is a paraphrase of the original and so they have left out the most crucial word "begotten". The word that they have taken out is what clearly states that Jesus was not just son, but the only begotten Son which make Him God Himself because a being begets a like being. The NIV takes the deity of Christ right out of that verse.

Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
